The Hafnarfjörður Run will be held for the second time on Thursday, June 12th at 20:00. The run will be a great new route from the city center through the residential and commercial areas of the port. Hafnarfjörður port and Eimskip are opening special toll areas to create the possibility of one of the fastest street running tracks in the country. Two distances are offered, 5 km and 10 km. The race is held by the Athletics Department of FH in cooperation with Hafnarfjarðarbær, Fjarðarkaup, Nike and other sponsors.
The Hafnarfjörður race is one of the few street races in Iceland where the race actually takes place on the streets, but the main routes through the city center will be closed to traffic during the race. A new running route is introduced, which is multi-surface and makes the run great for improving, but at the same time very accessible for those who are starting their running career. The lap is 5 km and participants in a 10 km race run two laps.
The men's and women's winners in the 5 km and 10 km will receive great prizes from Nike and Sign. Age category winners will be recognized. Lucky entrants from the draw prize. All participants will be invited to swim after the race.
Directions
It starts at Strandgata by Thorsplan. The running route is along Vesturgata and outside Norðurbakkann. There you enter Strandstig and run back at Norðurbakkinn. At the bus stop opposite the Sports Hall, go out onto Strandgata and run out to the harbor at Hafró. There you enter the closed area of Hafnarfjörður port and on to the closed activity area of Eimskip. From there go to Óseyrbraut to Fornubúðir and Strandgata back. At Hafnarfjörður church, turn off the roundabout at Lækjargata and onto Strandgata to Thorsplan. The running route is a wide area around the harbor in the most beautiful fjord in the country. Due to the road closures, the time limit for 10 km will be 80 minutes. Those who do not expect to reach that time are encouraged to register for a 5 km run.
