On Saturday, September 7th, 2024, the Þórsgata Volcano Trail Run will take place for the eleventh time in Þórsmörk. The race is open to all off-road and mountain runners. The race is held in collaboration with Hlaupár, which manages the race.
There are two routes of 12 km and 4.5 km
12 km run
Start September 7th, 2024, at 12:00 at Volcano Huts cabin in Húsadal in Þórsmörk. The race ends in the same place.
The route: The run is into Húsadalin heading up Laugaveðin. When you come out of Húsadal, turn off the path to the right in the direction of Langadal and go off the path up to Slyppugil ridge and along it until the path leads down to Slyppugil. Then turn left towards Tindfjallaslétta and then down Stangarháls to Stóraenda. From there you run along Krossáraur to Langadal and head up Valahnúk (275 m elevation) and back down to the west side to the finish line in Húsadal.
Participation in the 12 km race gives ITRA points.

4.5 km run
Start September 7th, 2024 at 12:15 at Volcano Huts cabin in Húsadal in Þórsmörk. The race ends in the same place.
The route: Run into Húsadalin and from there take a path that leads to Langadal. When you get to Langadal, continue up Valahnúk (275 m elevation) and down again to the west to the end in Húsadal.
The route is suitable for those who want to cross quickly and also for those who want to take a light jog or walk.
Registration and participation fees
Registration has been opened here on hlaup.is and the participation fees are as follows:
12 km
- Registrations until June 30th: ISK 7,900
- Registrations from July 1st - September 7th: ISK 8,900
- Registrations from September 6th - September 7th: ISK 12,900
4.5 km
- Registrations until June 30th: ISK. 2,900
- Registrations from July 1st - September 7th: ISK. 3,400
- Registrations from September 6th - September 7th: ISK. 3,900
Pre-registration will be closed here at hlaup.is at 18 on Friday, September 8th, but you can register on site until 11:00 on September 9th.
Refunds of registration fee is not available, but name changes are possible. Send name changes to hlaup@hlaup.is (with name, birthday, e-mail and phone number of the person who is to receive the ticket).
The maximum number of people in the 12 km run is 400 people.
Delivery of race material

Prizes and various information
The participation fee includes access to the showers, sauna and swimming pool after the race, but you can also book accommodation in Húsadal, food after the race and you can book buses on the website of the race Þórsgata Volcano Trail Run when it gets closer. Buses leave from Reykjavík, Hvolsvollur and Krossá.
Prizes will be awarded for the first three places for men and women. Instead of awarding a participation prize (medal), the corresponding amount will be awarded to the Volcano Trails environmental fund for the construction, marking and maintenance of walking and running trails in Þórsmörk.
- There will be guards at selected points along the route. The path is clear most of the way and the track is marked with stakes.
- There will be no drinking stations except at the finish line, but water flows in streams here and there along the route where you can fill up.
- The race is held by Volcano Trails in Húsadal Þórsmörk in collaboration with Hlyn and Þórdísi at Hlaupar who are in charge of the race management.
- Everyone can participate here. We encourage people to bring their families. Ideal for taking the children and/or grandparents along for the 4.5 km route.
